In this article we aim to verify what teachers of a state school of RN perceive from their experiences with students with disabilities, enrolled in elementary school. Interviews were conducted with five teachers who work with special education in a school in the city of Mossoró-RN. The teachers' narratives showed that there is a recognition of the problems that the public school system still faces; The difficulties are even greater when working with students with disabilities. These problems range from structural problems, such as the lack of investment in architectural adaptations, to attitudinal ones that negatively reflect students' development. In conclusion, the teachers point out that there are still many barriers to be overcome in special education; but they believe that students with disabilities can achieve school success, just like other students.
