This text seeks to analyze representations of the female gender in the Enciclopédia Thesouro da Juventude, from 1911 to 1927, the period covered by the first fragment found in Brazil and by the collection researched here. The notions of representation from Chartier (1990) and gender, according to Arruda (2002), were used theoretically, based on the problem question: How is the female gender represented in the Enciclopédia Thesouro da Juventude? As a device that helped educate young people, through the texts and images conveyed, female representations were impacted by previously defined types that became intense as the ideal woman. The study carried out leads us to understand its contribution as a source and object for the history of women, insofar as the types represented, whose characteristics include saints, witches, princesses and housewives, reveal not only stages in the history of women, but also narratives of models that have marked, and still mark, this history, whose sources, as well as being androcentric, are scarce.
