As contribuições do aprendizado de um segundo idioma para os processos cognitivos dos indivíduos é um objeto de estudo que tem despertado interesse em grupos científicos de diversos centros acadêmicos. O presente trabalho consiste numa análise de artigos publicados em revistas científicas com fator de impacto e disponibilizados nas plataformas Scopus e Web of Science cujo critério principal de seleção é o fato de trazerem dados sobre investigações que tratem sobre o tema em questão: o aprendizado de um segundo idioma e suas implicações. Para tanto, foram analisados 12 artigos que contribuíram com a construção de uma revisão sistemática sobre os resultados mais recentes dos estudos realizados.
