Abstract
Introduction: iidentify the knowledge and cultural practices in food and nutrition of the Mayan Ixil linguistic community; that allow the formulation and implementation of more effective policies and strategies for the prevention of child malnutrition. Methodology: mixed approach, based on twenty in-depth interviews with ancestral leaders - spiritual guides, midwives, local authorities and therapists. Analysis: Atlas-Ti V7 software was used. Results: Upon reaching this section, elements emerged such as: war, land dispossession, intergenerational conflicts, dietary transitions, increase in the cost of food, and a health system that continues with a curative biomedical model that does not respond to needs. about malnutrition in the community in the voice of the actors. Discussion and Conclusion: this research shows the aspects between public health policies with respect to food security and the fight against poverty, and the null social impact on ancestral communities in the voice of the actors.
