MEMES: PARTILHANDO SENTIDOS NO ENSINO DE E/LE
Abstract
This text contains a report on the practical experience of teaching a foreign language – Spanish – in a seventh-semester class of the Arts course at a public university in the state of Bahia. The objective is to show in a pedagogical way how it is possible to use memes in the language classroom. Memes are digital discourse genres and are hybridized from the meeting of multiple languages when systematized in multimodality. From this perspective, the meanings are also diverse, ranging from humor to social political criticism. This study is based on two methodological references: a) virtual ethnography and action research; the production was carried out in the digital environment, 100% of the memes were created through the cell phone connected to the website https://www.freememegenerator.org/ and shared in the group's WhatsApp group created for this purpose; action research made it possible to observe and reorient the practical actions of the participants in the construction of memes. In fact, it was found, in practice, that the discursive genre meme is an important ally in Spanish language teaching, as it expands the use of languages and multimodalities available to students connected to the web through a digital mobile device – in this case, the smarthphone - predominant tool in action.
