Abstract
The study aimed to analyze the occurrence of tuberculosis in Rio Grande do Norte (RN), comparing it with the Northeast and Brazil in the period 2014-2022. An ecological study of tuberculosis cases reported in the Notifiable Diseases Information System was carried out, analyzed by geographic location and social group. Statistical data from the penitentiary system was used to obtain information on people deprived of liberty (PPL). The tuberculosis's incidence has increased since the beginning of the period in the three regions. Diabetics and health professionals presented congruent data for the three locations, while PPL in RN showed great variation. In RN, alcoholics, smokers and homeless people are less likely to be cured of the disease and more likely to die as a result of it. The elevated proportion of the disease in the PPL of RN may be a consequence of the absence of solariums detected in the state's prison units.
