Abstract

The objective of this research was to diagnose geohelminths with zoonotic potential in the soil of public squares and schools with the presence of parks in the municipality of Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte. The proposed methodology had as an inclusion criterion the presence of playgrounds allocated on sand, and 100% of the places with these criteria were selected, being 30 squares and four schools. At each point, were carried out five collections of superficial and deep sand , using sedimentation and flotation techniques, totaling 150 samples in the squares and 20 in the schools. As a result, it was verified that in the school environment, of the 20 samples collected, 25% (5/20) were positive. Among the endoparasites in the egg stage, were diagnosed 40% (2/5) Trichuris spp., 40% (2/5) Dipylidium spp. and 20% (1/5) Toxocara spp. . While more than one parasite per sample was diagnosed in the squares, and Ancylostoma spp. was diagnosed in the egg stage, 48.6% (73/150), Toxocara spp. 32.6% (49/150) and Ascaris spp. 20.6% (31/150), while in the larval stage Strongyloides spp. 3.33% (5/150) and Ancylostoma spp. 38% (57/150). Concluding that both the schools and the public squares surveyed presented pathogenic parasites with importance for public health, representing a risk to the health of children who socialize in these Spaces.
