Abstract
This study aimed to describe adherence to drug treatment and environmental control measures, as well as hygiene care performed by caregivers of children with rhinitis and/or asthma during the COVID-19 pandemic's first year. This is a descriptive and cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach and a convenience sample of children and adolescents treated at an allergy clinic of a university hospital and their respective caregivers. Data collection was carried out by consulting electronic medical records and through interviews carried out by phone call, with the application of a structured and developed form for this study. The sample consisted of 68 caregivers and 72 pediatric patients. All patients had rhinitis and 45 of them had asthma. Most used the prescribed medications regularly (95.83% of patients with rhinitis and 84.44% of asthmatic patients), 50 (73.53%) caregivers performed daily cleaning of the floor, 48 (70.59%) claimed dust in the domestic environment, 46 (63.89%) denied the use of waterproof covers to mites, 59 (86.76%) families did not comply with the social isolation of all your members, 66 (98.5%) wore masks when leaving the house and 68 (100%) said they performed hygiene hands frequently. Caregivers of children and adolescents showed relevant adherence to hygiene care for the prevention of COVID-19, partial adherence to environmental control measures against exposure to aeroallergens and regular administration of medications for rhinitis and asthma to their children in COVID-19 pandemic's first year.
