Abstract

Objective: to evaluate the relationship between exposure to air pollution and asthma phenotypes, symptom control and lung function. Methods: residents within a two-kilometer radius of the eight fixed air monitoring stations, with severe asthma or mild to moderate asthma, subdivided into: atopic and eosinophilic and assessed with the Asthma Control Questionnaire and spirometry. Results: in individuals with mild/moderate asthma, the non-eosinophilic phenotype was associated with greater exposure to particulate material and nitrogen dioxide; the sample with severe asthma showed no association with any asthma control outcome. Conclusion: The exposure of individuals with mild to moderate asthma to pollutants MP10 and NO2 was associated with the non-eosinophilic phenotype of asthma in Salvador, Brazil.
