Abstract

The population of the women prisioner increased considerably over the last few years. So, it needed to build new prisons to comply this new number of prisoners. However, the women prisioner are subordinated to a double violation of their rights because their special female conditions are ignored because prisons are built to receive only men. This academic project wants to discuss an issue of incarcerated women from a new perspective aiming to analyze means that help in the assure of women's rights in prison. The study also specifically addresses a gender issue as the main impediment to meeting these requirements and portrays the need for social deconstruction of male and female roles. In addition, this work also explains how pregnancy and motherhood in prison occurs, using a qualitative approach, with documentary and bibliographic analysis, based on an inductive, typological and functional method, aiming a practical application. This present work was based on the understanding of the source of the problems of female prisons, promoting a discussion of very critical points, such as access to health inmates and the way that pregnancy occurs in prisons, and brings as a result ways to improve these issues.
