Contemporary public administration faces a scenario of increasing complexity, driven by growing social demands and the rapid expansion of information technologies. In this context, Management Information Systems (MIS) have become essential tools for enhancing efficiency, transparency, and decision-making capacity within public institutions. This study aimed to analyze how MIS are used in practice by different public administration bodies in the state of Sergipe, examining their impacts on management and identifying associated benefits and challenges. The research adopted a qualitative approach, with exploratory and descriptive characteristics, and employed a multiple case study method. Three public organizations were investigated: a State School, the Military Body, and the Judicial Body. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews with managers and staff who use these systems. The transcripts were analyzed using Content Analysis, allowing the identification of patterns and comparisons among the cases. The main results indicate that MIS significantly contribute to administrative efficiency by reducing rework, minimizing bureaucracy, and improving operational control. They also play a key role in promoting transparency through digital records, data portals, and automated accountability processes. However, challenges remain, such as resistance to change, the need for continuous training, system integration limitations, and uneven technological infrastructure. The study concludes that MIS are strategic tools for modernizing public administration and strengthening data-driven management. Nonetheless, their full effectiveness depends on continuous investments in technology, information governance, and human development.
