ABSTRACT
This study aims to analyze the challenges, strategies, and factors that influence the inclusion and permanence of people with disabilities (PWD) in the labor market, with an emphasis on individual experiences and the construction of professional identity. A qualitative approach was adopted, with a multiple case study design, based on semi-structured interviews with three professionals with disabilities, representing different types of disability, work trajectories, and levels of education. Data analysis was conducted using the content analysis technique. The results revealed that PWD face structural, attitudinal, and symbolic barriers both to entering and remaining in the workplace, such as the lack of preparation of companies, lack of adaptations, misinformation about rights, and prejudice. In contrast, permanence strategies involved family support, the search for qualifications, and negotiation with managers, although the absence of assistive technologies in organizations was a constant. The participants' professional identity was strongly linked to the perception of belonging, recognition, and overcoming, even though marked by inequalities in institutional recognition. It is concluded that the full inclusion of PWDs demands not only legal compliance, but also a cultural change in organizations, guided by the appreciation of diversity, equity and truly inclusive management practices.
