O CAMINHO DA SAÚDE MENTAL: UMA ANÁLISE DOS ESPAÇOS DA UNIDADE DE SAÚDE MENTAL DO HOSPITAL SÃO JOSÉ EM ARACAJU, SERGIPE
Abstract
Historically, there have been several changes in the premises of care for the mental patient, none as effective as with the emergence of the anti-asylum movement and later the Psychiatric Reform, which together with architecture transformed care practices, proving to be effective tools in the humanization of psychiatric spaces. Thus, this research seeks to conduct a historical journey of architectural spaces dedicated to mental health and investigate the current scenario, focusing on the Mental Emergency Unit of Hospital São José in the city of Aracaju, Sergipe, in order to discuss the need for more suitable spaces for people with mental disorders. This paper was built from explanatory research, in order to understand the real situation of the object of study. For its reasoning, bibliographical research procedures were used from the reading of Michel Foucault, Isabel Rios, Luis Toledo, Thelma Veloso and others, who helped to build the text, as well as field research with: interviews with staff and patients; cadastral survey; photographic; documentary study. Such discussions point to the challenge of architecture when planning spaces for public health in relation to psychosocial assistance. It also highlights the importance of acting together with the social actors involved in this context to improve the quality of these environments with regard to form, spatial configurations and composition, for the purpose of contribute to the well-being and treatment of patients, as well as in the daily lives of its employees and managers.
