Schistosomiasis prevalence of the city of Nossa Senhora do Socorro, Sergipe, 2001-2006

Schistosomiasis mansoni is a parasitic infectious disease, waterborne disease and is caused by Schistosoma mansoni. The Northeast region is highly endemic, and Sergipe state with a relevant prevalence data and neglected. The Information System for Notifiable Diseases Database (SINAN) was used to collect information such as: area of residence, education, race, gender and age in the years 2001 to 2006. Despite the failure to fill in the registration forms, the present study could show that the city of Nossa Senhora do Socorro, schistosomiasis is an urban disease, which affects individuals with 4-7 years of study, mostly brown, male and aged between 20 and 39 years. The study shows that schistosomiasis and underreporting are major public health problems in the city of Nossa Senhora do Socorro, which should be reviewed to improve the health of its population.
