STONE: LIVING AND WORKING IN THE HINTERLAND OF ALAGOAS

Abstract

The main objective of the research was to understand and study the spatial configuration of the former industrial nucleus of Pedra, today Delmiro Gouveia, named in honor of the industrialist from Ceará Delmiro Augusto da Cruz Gouveia - industrialist was responsible for the implementation of several enterprises in the region, which marked history and that have repercussions to the present day. It is worth mentioning that, from the history of the industrialist Delmiro, the structure for the understanding of the construction of the industrial nucleus in the Alagoan hinterland begins. All the industrial aspects introduced by him in this region, based on investments and learning of the rural population in the manufacturing sector, provided a great generation of jobs, transforming that area into the first working-class village in the Sertão. In addition to electricity, the village also had, according to Correia (1998), a chapel, cinema, telephone, running water, laundries, large warehouses and a school for adults and children, and workers' dwellings were located on the industrial lands of Delmiro, in addition to to be built close to the raw material. With this, the research was carried out to know the dynamics of this space, through a bibliographic review of academic works such as articles, theses and dissertations. In addition, it was possible to analyze that the current city of Delmiro Gouveia developed and reached prominence in the region thanks to the factory system implemented by the industrialist, despite having negative points, by giving opportunity to the sertanejos who lived in a different perspective.
