Abstract

According to the Federal Constitution (1988), patrimony is a set of goods, which can be material or immaterial, taken by individuals or communities, which carry references to identity, action and memory in five categories and their ramifications: expressions, lifestyle, creations, objects and urban, ecological, architectural sites, etc. Therefore, the importance and sustainability of any patrimony for the society or group in which it is inserted is undeniable. Based on this premise, this article seeks to contribute to this understanding through bibliographical research and literature review that address the theme, and a case study of the architectural heritage of the Centro neighborhood of the city Maceió. It is noticed that, even though the Centro neighborhood is considered a Special Preservation Zone according to its Maceió Master Plan (2006), the situation of most of the buildings and historic sites in the neighborhood does not seem to receive proper appreciation, as well as not showing preservation. or signs of conservation projects. Based on this, the article brings an analysis of these buildings through a photographic survey and field study, seeking to raise a critical eye and generate discussions regarding the reuse of old buildings and the preservation of patrimony.
