TRAFFIC ACCIDENT INJURIES IN ALAGOAS IN THE PERIOD OF 2018-2021.
Abstract
Introduction: Land Transport Accidents (LTA) have a great impact on mortality statistics, constituting one of the main causes of death in young people and adults. Trauma consists of an injury resulting from several mechanisms of energy exchange between an external cause and the human body, which causes damage of different proportions, causing a great impact on the morbidity and mortality of the population. The severity of injuries and fatalities in traffic accidents are closely related to the means of transport and the situation of vulnerability that the victim is in, which, depending on the situation, can be characterized as polytraumatized. Objective: Describe the epidemiological profile according to: age group; gender and type of accident; of patients who were victims of traffic accidents in Alagoas, showcasing mortality in the years 2018-2021. Methods: This was an epidemiological, cross-sectional retrospective study. The research was carried out in the databases of DataSUS- TABNET, Pubmed and Scielo. Results and Discussion: About three quarters (73%) of all road traffic deaths occur among young males under 25 years of age. In Alagoas, according to data from DATASUS, in the period from 2018 to 2021, the prevalence of hospitalizations due to transport accidents in males was about 4 times higher when compared to females in each year studied. Conclusion: The age group between 20 and 29 years old corresponds to the majority of hospitalized patients and also the one that had the highest number of deaths in two of the four years studied. Research has shown that males are the ones who are hospitalized the most due to traffic accidents and also the ones who die the most due to this cause. The cause with the highest prevalence of hospitalizations corresponds to the ICD-10 V20-V29 Motorcyclist injured by a transport accident.
