Abstract

In times past, oil production was the main objective and concern only the exploration and production of oil and gas, but over the years emerged a concern also with the water produced, considered an inherent effluent in the primary processing of oil and gas where final disposal is an important factor especially for the fact that environmental agencies have established recently standards for their proper treatment and final disposal. Thus, studies to obtain the best technology or set of technologies for treatment of produced water are in evidence not only aimed at greater efficiency in the removal and recovery of oil and other toxic agents, but also with the financial viability of these technologies. Thus, faced with economic and environmental aspects, several factors are considered in planning a waste management system for exploration and production of oil in order to comply with legislation. Among these factors minimize construction costs, operation and maintenance of treatment units and add value to the effluent, for example, the re-injection into reservoirs and final disposal correct, are presenting the highlights. In this sense the present work was describe the main technologies used for the treatment of produced water.
