Abstract

Aim: To identify the factors that interfere in the quality of life of women with PCOS.
Methodology: This is an integrative literature review, based on the guiding question
“What are the factors that interfere with the quality of life of women with PCOS?”. The
following databases were used: SciELO, BVS, PUBMED and LILACS, using the
descriptors: Polycystic ovary syndrome, quality of life and health. The search was
carried out in February 2023 and included works published between the years 2018
to 2022, in Portuguese, English and Spanish. Results: The final sample of this
review consisted of fourteen scientific articles, which show that overweight,
dissatisfaction with body image, hirsutism, infertility, menstrual irregularities, sexual
dysfunction and propensity to develop anxiety and depression are the factors that
interfere with quality of life of the woman with PCOS. Conclusion: It is notable that
most studies cite factors considered external, with morphological characteristics
being the most worrying in relation to reproductive complaints, however, women's
dissatisfaction with their own body can reflect on mental health.
