FLEBITES QUÍMICAS ASSOCIADAS A CATETER VENOSO DE INSERÇÃO PERIFÉRICA (PICC), NO ÂMBITO HOSPITALAR EM PACIENTES COM CÂNCER DE MAMA
Abstract
Adverse events (AE) constitute a public health problem, recognized by the World Health Organization. AEs such as phlebitis are common in the hospital environment, and their prevalence in patients undergoing cancer treatment may be related to intravenous pharmacotherapy, in which the pharmacist should provide assistance and analyze the associated risk factors. Given the consequences of AEs, the present study aimed to describe the scientific evidence published in the literature about the risk factors for the development of chemical phlebitis in women with breast cancer in Brazil and demonstrate the care of the pharmaceutical professional in order to benefit the integrity and health of these patients. This is a review of the literature between the years 2017 and 2023, on chemical phlebitis associated with the use of a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) in patients with breast cancer in Brazil. In this way, the study portrayed the PICC puncture process, highlighting the importance of care such as site selection, dilution of the medication, infusion speed, which can cause damage to the endothelium, in addition to addressing the importance of the pharmacist in the multidisciplinary team contributing to the prevention of adverse reactions such as phlebitis. It is concluded that the present study was of great relevance, given that breast cancer is one of the main causes of mortality among women in Brazil and around the world, thus increasing the number of hospitalized patients using medications through ( PICC's) and are subjected to treatment, resulting in chemical phlebitis.
