Abstract

High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) currently presents itself as another technique used in laboratory diagnosis, performing the separation of many components of a mixture of substances in order to identify, quantify or purify them. Within the scope of clinical analyzes, it is a methodology that has high sensitivity and specificity, being recommended by the National Neonatal Screening Program (PNTN) for investigating hemoglobinopathies in newborns, in addition to presenting satisfactory results in the fragmentation and determination of substances considered toxic to healthiness. This study aims to carry out a bibliographic survey on analytical determination using liquid chromatography in clinical analyzes, focusing on the research of hemoglobinopathies and the evaluation of micropollutants. For its realization, bibliographic searches were carried out using the keywords "diagnosis" and "liquid chromatography" in databases like Pubmed and Scielo. The use of HPLC method in the screening of hemoglobin variants has shown greater benefits when compared to the electrophoretic method, as well as the chromatographic separation of micropollutants; in both, quick and effective results were obtained. In conclusion, High Performance Liquid Chromatography can be considered the gold standard for fractionation and study of samples in the laboratory routine.
