EFEITOS BIOLÓGICOS DE EXTRATOS DA PASSIFLORA ALATA: UMA REVISÃO DA LITERATURA

Resumo

Passiflora alata é uma espécie herbácea semiperene, trepadeira e frutífera nativa da América do Sul, especialmente do Brasil. É conhecida por vários nomes populares, dentre eles, o maracujá de refresco. O cultivo da P. alata no Brasil tem importância comercial em função do preço alcançado pela saborosa poupa do seu fruto, pela utilização em ornamentações e por propriedades farmacológicas. Informações baseadas em evidências sobre a bioatividade desta erva são apresentadas. No Brasil é utilizada através do preparo de infusões como agente ansiolítico, sedativo, diurético, analgésico, e para convalescência, fazendo parte da Relação Nacional de Plantas Medicinais de Interesse ao Sistema único de saúde. Os principais constituintes dessa erva incluem flavonoides, seguido por saponinas, alcaloides e aminas. Os efeitos biológicos (in vitro, in vivo e ex vivo) da P. alata. envolvem ação anorexígena, anticonvulsivante, antidiabética, anti-inflamatória, antimicrobiana, antioxidante, cardioprotetora, entre outros. Além disso, o potencial citotóxico dessa erva foi avaliado frente a linhagens de células tumorais humanas (adenocarcinoma ovariano, carcinoma de cólon e glioblastoma), sendo citada como importante atividade anticâncer e promissora para a progressão dos estudos na área das neoplasias malignas. Nesta revisão, nós descrevemos o uso da P. alata na medicina tradicional, sua avaliação curativa e/ou efeitos biológicos e as descobertas recentes de destaque que podem contribuir para o desenvolvimento como um agente terapêutico de promoção da saúde humana.
