Resumo

Cuidados paliativos envolvem o cuidado multidisciplinar e humanizado, para pacientes com diagnóstico de doenças delicadas, analisando seus aspectos biopsicossocial e espirituais. Em crianças com diagnóstico de câncer e sem perspectiva de melhora, o cuidado e a atenção devem ser planejados, pela maior fragilidade e a dificuldade da comunicação e em explicar ao paciente que não existe mais cura, preparando-o para um possível luto. O estudo do cuidado paliativo pediátrico é restrito a uma subespecialização médica, portanto, existem poucas pessoas que tem capacitação para tal trabalho, e com isso dificulta a tomada de decisão da família. Junto a isso, existe ainda uma grande deficiência de estrutura para esse serviço e também uma considerável resistência em abandonar a medicina tradicional e aceitar que não existem mais métodos técnicos e científicos que solucionem o caso, expondo-o a condições de mais sofrimento que poderiam ser evitados. Isso enfatiza a importância da capacitação e da estrutura hospitalar pública e privada para os profissionais de saúde em geral e de uma maior atenção por parte deles e do serviço para com o paciente e sua família.
