Abstract

Good practices in the delivery process are those closely related to the humanization process in obstetric care. According to recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), they must guarantee autonomy, respect for the right of women and family, empathetic support for health professionals, encouragement to the use of non-invasive and non-pharmacological methods for pain relief, freedom of position, use of the best evidence in clinical practice, among others. This study aimed to identify and analyze the scientific evidence regarding the good obstetric practices used in humanized childbirth before and in times of pandemic. This is a literature review. The research showed that good obstetric practices, in general, remained present during the pandemic, but their actions / implementation depend on the clinical status of the binomial (mother and child) in the face of suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19, however some of the actions they were eliminated in the first and second moments of labor, such as bathing and giving birth in the bathtub; from the second moment onwards, the incentive for biosafety measures and assessment of vital signs and O2 saturation of the parturient every hour and continuous fetal monitoring throughout labor was increased, in order to maintain safety. Therefore, these new conducts did not at any time fail to meet the standard of good practices, since the principles of good practices are those of reducing unnecessary intervention, aiming to meet and monitor physiology and identify dystocias, in order to intervene.
